Swords Bacon & Beer – The Fighter’s Page

Corrin is the same age as Aren, and they have been friends since childhood. Corrin eschews books and the infamous facts they contain. He has no time for science, or wisdom, or anything related to users. What he does have time for is mischief, alcohol in all its available forms, women of every variety, food in all its variations, conversations about swords, swords themselves, the application of swords, conversations about the application of swords, famous feats of excellence that have been performed with the aid of swords, and mockery of the young, the elderly, the wealthy, the wise, the responsible, the celibate, and anyone he happens to cross swords with.

Corrin’s blades (when the Advent Lumina Cycle begins):

  • The Steel Whore – a longsword (Sabarian Steel)
  • Levidian Nails
  • Kokril Talon
  • Broad Blade from Pannoria
  • Ivory-hilted knife from Miralamar
  • Calabari Claw
  • Decorative Dagger from Cyurmur
  • Cleaver from Talorin
  • Bronze-hilted Dagger from Castice
  • Silver Dagger from Kolac
  • Cambrian Dirk
  • Throwing knife from Samring
  • White Steel of Albinon

People Corrin claims to have dueled despite their having died prior to him being born:

  • Bassimer the Bold, Champion of the Outer Guard, later Knighted by the High King of Olbaran
  • Rainan the Emerald Wind, Sarenwalker Champion
  • Soriel the White Star of Tyrelon
  • Rebran Manx the Whirlwind, Knight of Granvale, Champion of High King Ledo III
  • Pelamer Doan the Kolkothan Storm, Knight of Stonewall, Champion of High King Talvor II

People Corrin has actually fought:

  • Five Sarenwalkers-in-training (briefly before running away)
  • Sembal the Mad Farmer of Palatora (briefly before running away)
  • Rhibus the Secret Swordsman (briefly before running away)
  • Fourteen unknown merchant bodyguards (two confirmed kills)
  • Seven-seven unknown armed sword-fighters of dubious skill (seven confirmed kills)
  • Twenty six unknown jealous husbands (no kills)
  • Approximately two hundred nameless drunk brawlers with little to no fighting skills of any kind (no kills)

Sword Quality:

  • The average sword – The majority of swords produced are poor in quality, usually only serviceable for and handful of fights, or one battle before they lose their edge, chip, or break. Mass-produced.
  • Quality swords – increased folding and tempering during creation, often by more experienced swordsmiths. A wealthy knight or an elite warrior might carry one of these.
  • Bravian Steel – Excellent quality steel, created by a master from common ore. Distinctive from other blades by the quality and the quantity of the folding and the care of the craftsmanship. Common as dueling swords in Lissaria, Cantabria, Maritinia, and the Levantine. Also common as longswords, and greatswords among the wealthy, including lords of Olbaran and Corien.
  • Sabarian Steel – Also called Grey Steel. Uncommon steel alloy with a distinctive ribbed, wavy charcoal pattern. Folded in the Sabarian method.
  • Bravonian Steel – Also called Green Steel. Very rare steel alloy that shimmers wavy green. Found predominantly in the mountains of Soldavia. The alloy deposits are so rare that it is only ever given to master swordsmiths to work with. Only carried by royalty, a wealthy lord, an elite warrior of distinction, or a very lucky thief.
  • Dorinthian Steel – Also called Red Steel. Very rare steel alloy that shimmers red when exposed to direct light. Found predominantly in the desert mines of Badrada and Aonia. It is so rare that it is only ever given to master swordsmiths to work with. Only carried by royalty, a wealthy lord, an elite warrior of distinction, or a very lucky thief.
  • Saren-Steel – Also called Blue Steel. Very rare steel alloy that shimmers with a distinctive blueish glow when exposed to light. Found predominantly in the mines in and around the Sarenwood of Amagon. It is so rare that it is only ever given to master swordsmiths to work with. Only carried by royalty, a wealthy lord, an elite warrior of distinction, or a very lucky thief. (or one descended from any of the above).
  • White Steel – Found only in the northeast. Extremely rare steel alloy that shimmers white when exposed to direct light. Found predominantly in the mountain mines of Malorin, Palantar, and the Hills of Da’ar. It is so rare that it is only ever given to master swordsmiths to work with. It is notoriously difficult to fold in the length of a longsword, and is therefore commonly used to make strong and reliable knives. Full-length swords forged of White steel are only carried by royalty, a wealthy lord, an elite warrior of distinction, or a very lucky thief.
  • Black Steel – also called Shadow Steel. Extremely rare steel alloy that is jet black in appearance and reflects nothing when exposed to direct light. Rarely ever seen anywhere ever. Only carried by one you would not wish to cross paths with, or someone very, very, very lucky.
